The Canine Penis
The canine penis is very different to the human penis. The question was asked in a forum... "Why does my dog flash his 'old fella' out when sitting?"
Well, it's because he can't help it, that's why.
Think about this... the dilated canine penis of a medium sized dog is as large or larger than the erect penis of a grown man. It is impossible for a dog to mate with a penis that is erect before entry. This is the opposite of a man of course, who can't mate unless the penis is erect.
So the good Lord has come to the rescue of our male doggie friends, and designed him a bit different.
A bone in the canine penis
All male canines have a bone in their penis. The purpose of this bone is to give structure to the penis so they can begin the mating with a flaccid penis. When the dog mounts a bitch, the canine penis enters while still flaccid, and does not swell up until after entry. It is the bone in the canine penis that allows a dog to begin the mating without an erection.
After entry the canine penis swells and fills with blood. Near the base of the penis is a "bulb" that swells to about twice the thickness of the penis. When this bulb swells it prevents the dog and bitch from separating until after the copulation has finished, and the semen is implanted in the bitch. This is referred to as "Tying"
I'm not sure, but I seem to remember that whales also have a bone in their penis... but I'll have to check that out.
