Crate Training A Dog
When crate training a dog you control a puppy or dog's environment in order to keep him out of trouble. You have to understand how a puppy dog views the world, and how it effects his behavior. By understanding a dog better, you make the process of house training a dog a lot easier and faster, which in turn makes it a lot more fun and rewarding for both you and your new puppy dog.
Tips on crate training a dog at home
House training a puppy dog doesn't have to be stressful on either you or your puppy. Crate training a dog is as simple as making his crate his sleeping area, and as dogs sleep 12 to 14 hours a day, he will soon feel at home in his crate.
Just take him outside every few hours, to empty (potty) after eating, and after excersize. You will learn that your puppy will want to empty after any disturbance or excersize, so get into the habit of teaching him properly.
When crate training a dog it's important to let him out during the night as well. He will tell if you he wants to empty. He will cry out or sniff around in the corners, possibly walk in circles. These are all signs of him wanting to empty.
Praise is important when crate training a dog, so be sure to praise your dog or puppy whenever he obeys your commands.
