Crate training puppies and the Wizdog Indoor Potty

Crate Training Puppies

Crate training puppies and using the leash at the same time, complement each other.

You want to make sure that you form good habits and don't teach bad habits. Using a crate will ensure that your furniture, carpet etc don't get damaged while your puppy is learning to fit into your house and your routine. Crate training puppies is a sure fire method of forming good puppy behavior, and preventing bad habits.

Be sure your puppy's crate is big enough to turn around in, but not so big that he can go to one end and eliminate and go back to the other end and sleep. Don't use the crate to confine your puppy too much. Introduce him to it gradually.

Make it very comfortable, with soft bedding. If you initially place his crate in a room with no carpet, like the laundry, your puppy will quickly learn that it is more comfortable inside his crate than outside of it. In a day or two, you can move the crate into your living area, and your pup will automatically use it to sleep in.

Leash

Always put your puppy on a leash when taking him out of the crate, no matter whether going to empty (potty time), exercise or for recreation. To potty train him, give him the command "potty time!" as you are getting him out of his crate. Then take him out to his personal emptying area in the yard, making it the same place every day.

At exercise time, give him the command "let's go!" as you get him out, and at recreation time, give the command "let's play!" as you get him out of his crate. By following this routine he will learn only good habits, and grow into a well balanced easy to train dog as he gets older.

Another benefit is that will become known as somewhat of an expert at crate training puppies amongst your friends.

Wizdog - Indoor Dog Potty

The Wizdog Indoor Dog Potty is a revolutionary housetraining system for dogs. Pee pads get shredded or stepped-in after liquid elimination and tracked all over carpet and furniture. Consisting of a durable plastic pan and fitted grate, liquid waste dispenses through the grate onto newspaper or pee pad, separated from your dog's paws. This is the cleanest, simplist and lowest cost solution to dog housetraining available.
