Housebreaking puppies the easy way. Whilst housebreaking puppies and dogs is not something you think of when choosing your puppy, it becomes a priority when you get your new puppy home. Most people find house breaking a puppy difficult, however with a little planning and understanding, it is easy and fun.

Housebreaking puppies is just a matter of understanding dog behavior, and if you can do this, you'll find that house breaking a puppy is dead easy.
Puppies will find a place to go to empty by themselves... so your job is to make sure that they empty where you want them to, not where they want to. You must be consistent and persevere when housebreaking puppies.
For successful puppy potty training it is essential that you take your puppy out to the same place each time to do his business. If your puppy is very young - 6 to 12 weeks old - it will be neccessary to take him out as often as every 2 hours.
The 1st week of housebreaking puppies
So the first week, take your puppy outside every few hours... not just after each feed. You should always take your puppy out after playing or any exercise, as the excitement will cause him to want to empty.
When housebreaking puppies it's important to let your puppy out during the night as well. Your puppy will tell if he wants to empty. He will cry out or sniff around in the corners, maybe walk in circles... these are all signs of him wanting to empty... on your shag pile, if you're not quick!
Praise is important when housebreaking puppies, and the praise must be for the act of doing his business - not just for going outside, doing nothing and then coming back in.
