The labradoodle, dingo and others
Included here are links to some of the odd breeds that don't readily fall into an established major group. Some of them are new, like the Labradoodle, while others, like the Dingo, are tens of thousands of years old.
The Primitive group includes the Australian Dingo, New Guinea Singing Dog, Pariah, Thai Ridgeback Dog and the Wolfdog and some other long-standing native breeds that are as much as tens of thousands of years old.
Hybrid dog breeds include recent hybrids of pure breeds developed for specific traits, for example the Labradoodle, a cross between the Labrador Retriever and the Standard Poodle. This dog, originally developed in Australia, does not shed it's coat. They were initially developed as guide dogs for blind people. But they are now more in demand for their hypoallergenic properties, making them a great companion dog for people with allergies.
The Spitz group of dogs includes the Alaskan Husky, American Indian Dog,Canadian Eskimo Dog, Chinook, Finnish Lapphund, Finnish Spitz, German Spitz, Greenland Dog, Inuit Sled Dog and the Seppala Siberian Sleddog to name a few. Obviously all working breeds, they are probably closely related to some of the ancient breeds, including wolves.
The Livestock Guardian group includes the Anatolian Shepherd Dog, Komondor, Maremma Sheepdog, Pyrenean Mastiff to name a few.
