Can dogs get cancer from asbestos poisoning?

Can Mesothelioma Kill Dogs?

Mesothelioma can kill dogs, just as it can kill people. Dogs living in an enviorement with asbestos are as much at risk of contracting mesothelioma as humans are.

Rescue dogs that were used at the World Trade Center disaster site, are being monitored for all sorts of ailments, including possible asbestos poisoning. While mesothelioma generally takes 20 to 40 years to show its devastation in humans, it can kill dogs in 5 to 6 years. Dogs only live 10 to 14 years, depending on their breed, and diseases like cancer hit and kill them much quicker than humans.
